This review is from: The New Abs Diet for Women: The Six-Week Plan to Flatten Your Stomach and Keep You Lean for Life (Paperback)
I gave this book 4 stars only because, despite being hailed as "New!", author Dave Zinczenko has done further research for his new book "Zero Belly Diet" that replaces some of the info in this book. That being said, I am impressed with the evidence-based research used to write this book and that is cited throughout. I am a nurse and will soon have my Master's degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner. My specialty is diabetes, so healthful eating is part of my gig. Evidence-based research is also important to me so I can feel comfortable and confident in sharing data with my patients, as well as putting it to use for myself and my family. The science is sound yet it is well written so you do not have to be in healthcare, nor a nutritionist, so understand it. The recipes in this book are certainly handy, though I did go ahead and purchase "The New Abs Diet Cookbook" to supplement the info from this book. I highly recommend purchasing that alongside this book... Read more

This book will build you up to using heavier weights fairly quickly. I have followed "body for life" alternatively which by comparison focuses on more sets for fat-burning; abs diet focuses on fewer heavier sets which won't necessarily burn more calories but it does build me up faster. The big advantage of this abs-diet book is the meals. I would like to point out my favorites are the Turkey Chili recipe which takes cheap ground turkey and makes it taste like a buttery chili. I personally hate the taste of ground turkey, but this recipe literally transforms it into tasting like normal chili. Which is great because ground turkey is cheap and supposedly a healthier meat than fatty ground beef. The other recipe is the Peanut Butter smoothie which I used with Chocolate protein powder and Irish slow-cooked oatmeal. That was the best daily protein shake I'd every had and I never got tired of drinking it.

I purchased the Kindle version of this book which I... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Abs Diet And Exercise Program, July 19, 2015

Not the end all diet or workout routine for everyone, but an excellent introduction for a more healthy lifestyle. This is a real common sense diet, which makes it easy to plan meals at home, and order at restaurants. The Abs system doesn't have any counting points or have any rules to remember. I found it super easy to follow, and you will start to see results with a few weeks. That being said if you aren't prepared to do the excercise portion of this diet it is very unlikely that you will lose any weight - as it is designed to provide your body with fuel for those workouts.
